North Carolina General Assembly § 10B-31

• A notary public can charge travel fees once advance written consent of the principal has been obtained.

• by North Carolina law, no additional payment can be legally accepted for notarial acts other than preapproved travel reimbursement. This includes tipping of any kind.​
